The Usher Family
Jungle Huts
Lodge

by Dianne Birney

Such a welcome we enjoyed from Phil and Rebecca. Baby Samarah had just arrived, Garifuna Settlement Days were upon us and Jungle Huts was full to capacity. Even so, the hospitality was immense and genuine, we were welcomed and cared for.

As Phil worked to pull together his business and his family, German just showed up, looking for work. When Phil asked who had sent German to Jungle Huts, German said, "No one." Phil said, "No, German, someone sent you to me. I have been blessed through you by God."

Each morning, Nayera would come to visit us and she would greet us in Creole. I would say, "Nayera I do not understand you when you speak Creole" and she would resume conversation in perfect English. But, the next morning she would again greet us in Creole, hoping perhaps, that we had gotten smarter in the night.

We found an outlet for Maria Sharp's hot sauce, THE best hot sauce we have ever eaten. Phil and Rebecca serve it with every meal. It is made in Dangriga, Belize and it is fantastic!!!
